Utah State Parks calls Sand Hollow "Utah's most popular state park": warm blue water against red sandstone, plus the Sand Mountain dunes for off-highway vehicles.1 It is about 25 minutes from downtown St. George.3
What to do
On the water: boating, waterskiing, swimming, fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding and scuba diving in the dive park.1
On the sand: Sand Mountain's dunes are open to OHVs; see our off-road listings for guided tours and rentals.
Camping: RV and tent sites, beach camping, primitive sites and cottages.1
Sand Hollow Rentals, the park concessionaire, rents kayaks, paddleboards, personal watercraft and boats.2 More options are on our Water & Boating page.
Rules worth knowing
Every vessel needs a properly fitted life jacket for each person; children under 13 must wear one while underway.1
Boats go through the decontamination station (quagga mussel prevention).1
Dogs are welcome on a leash; never leave pets in vehicles.1
Check the park page for algae advisories, water level and event closures before you go.1
When to go
Late spring through early fall is water season; summer highs in the area average about 100°F, so go early.3 Fall, winter and spring are prime for the dunes and hiking.
