Where to Stay in St. George and Greater Zion

By Simply St George · Updated · Facts cited below

Sponsored This guide is presented by your business.

Greater Zion, the name Washington County's tourism office uses for the area, is spread out, so pick your area first. Where you stay decides how much of your trip you spend in the car. The county's tourism office groups lodging into five regions: St. George Area, Hurricane Valley, Zion Corridor, Alpine and Mesa Country, and lists hotels, vacation rentals, campgrounds, bed and breakfasts, RV parks, resorts, glamping and unique stays.1 We don't rank hotels or post prices or ratings, because those change all the time. Use the official directories below for what's open now.

The main areas

St. George area

A central base for golf, dining and events, with hotels, resorts and vacation rentals listed in Greater Zion's directory.1 Downtown puts you near the historic district, and the golf courses and parks are spread around the city. See our golf guide, dining guide and This Weekend in St. George.

West side: Santa Clara and Ivins

Mostly residential, and close to Snow Canyon State Park. If you'd rather sleep in the park, Snow Canyon's campground takes reservations up to four months ahead and at least two days before arrival, with a 14 night maximum.6

Hurricane Valley

East of St. George on the way to Zion. It's home to Sand Hollow State Park, with its reservoir, dunes and campgrounds.1,7 A practical base if you want both the lake and Zion on one trip.

Springdale and the Zion Corridor

Zion Canyon, where hikes like Angels Landing and the Narrows begin, is next to Springdale, and the park's South Entrance is on the north end of town.5 During shuttle season, free shuttles serve Zion Canyon and Springdale.5 Inside the park, Zion Lodge is the only lodging, with 76 hotel rooms, 6 suites and 40 historic cabins.3

Alpine and Mesa Country

Greater Zion also lists stays in these two regions.1 Filter its directory by region to see what's available.

Camping and RV options

  • Zion National Park: reservations are required, and from mid-March through late November the campgrounds are full almost every night. Watchman Campground is open year-round with reservations up to six months ahead. South Campground (seasonal) and Lava Point (seasonal, about an hour from Zion Canyon) open reservations 14 days ahead.4
  • Snow Canyon State Park: hookup and non-hookup sites plus hike-in tent sites. Reserve up to four months ahead.6
  • Sand Hollow State Park: see Utah State Parks for current campground details.7
  • Red Cliffs Campground (BLM): inside the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, with trails, dinosaur tracks and day-use areas.8 See best hiking trails.

Vacation rentals: check the rules first

St. George allows nightly (short term) rentals only in developments on the city's approved list, plus homes that meet narrow standards in City Code 10-17A-13.9,10 Booking platforms operate independently, and Greater Zion notes that availability, pricing, amenities and reviews are managed by each service.1 If you're booking a home in St. George, or thinking about buying one to rent, check it with our Rental Checker.

When to book early

Spring and fall fill up first. See St. George weather by month. Zion's campgrounds fill almost every night from mid-March through late November.4 Check the events calendar before you pick dates, since big race and festival weekends draw crowds. Our annual events guide lists the big ones.

FAQ

Is it better to stay in St. George or Springdale for Zion?

If Zion Canyon is the main reason for your trip, Springdale puts you next to the park's South Entrance. If you also want golf, dining, Snow Canyon or Sand Hollow, St. George or Hurricane Valley gives you a central base. Zion Lodge is the only lodging inside the park.

Can I camp in Zion National Park?

Yes, with a reservation. The National Park Service says reservations are required at park campgrounds and that from mid-March through late November they are full almost every night. Watchman Campground takes reservations up to six months ahead, and South and Lava Point up to 14 days ahead.

How far ahead can I book Snow Canyon camping?

Utah State Parks says Snow Canyon campsites can be reserved up to four months and at least two days before arrival, with a 14 night maximum stay. Unreserved sites go first come, first served after 10 a.m. on the day of arrival.

Are vacation rentals legal in St. George?

Only in certain places. The city allows nightly rentals in developments on its approved short term rental list, plus homes that meet narrow standards in City Code 10-17A-13. Check any St. George rental with our Rental Checker before you book or buy. Other cities set their own rules.

Where can I find a full list of hotels and rentals?

The Greater Zion Convention & Tourism Office keeps an accommodations directory you can filter by region and stay type, and offers a free Visitors Guide with lodging and campground listings.
